Overview

On a hillside above a water source east of the old village of Statos, is the chapel of Agia Varvara. It seems that the chapel was rebuilt in 1921. It is a small chapel of a typical square construction with a tiled roof that is whitened both internally and externally. Inside you can find a marble iconostasis with additional icons of the Saints along with 2 gates, the (central) Royal gate and the left gate. There is also a despotic throne and wooden chantries present. Although small, it can accommodate up to 150 believers. The venerated icon of Saint Barbara, dating back to the 18th century, is placed atop a special iconostasis. The chapel is open twice a year on the 4th December which is on the feast day of St. Barbara and Easter.
